Schumacher is still the candidate championship in F1

Posted by Mr Dung Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Schumacher is the most successful driver in F1 history, returning after many years of absence but he remains a threat to competitors.Schumacher may be struggling this season with three bad races, but he will soon be back to his best.Nico Rosberg mentioned that he has the best team-mate he could ask for and Schumacher will soon get back to business.Schumacher was broke up F1  three years, a relatively long period and therefore a proper comeback will take time.

Nico gave his Mercedes team the first podium finish of the season as Schumacher again failed to impress. Michael himself believes that he is not a magician and he will require more races to get back the winning touch. He did acknowledge that he was pacing the car, but at the moment the car is not where he wants it to be. When he was a champion, he had the car to do it which is an important aspect. The Mercedes unit is on schedule when it comes to developing a driver specified racer and soon the results will start getting better.

What do you guys think? Is Schumacher still a threat to other racer in F1?

The logos of the Russian carmaker Lada will appear on the monocoque sides of Renault's R30 single seater in 2010.

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin announced early this week that, with Vyborn-born Vitaly Petrov at the wheel of the Enstone built car, Lada would sponsor the team in 2010 and possibly later increase "our financial participation in the project".

The French carmaker Renault, albeit only now with a minor shareholding in the F1 team bearing its name, owns 25 per cent of Lada's parent Avtovaz.

"Lada branding will also appear on the overalls and team uniform of ... Petrov," the team confirmed in a media statement.

Renault F1 chairman Gerard Lopez also revealed that team owner Mangrove Capital has been "actively investing in Russia over the last years".

Renault Unveils Their R30 Formula One Car In Spain

Renault has unveiled their brand Formula One racer, as well as their second driver. Russian will be proud to hear that Vitaly Petrov will occupy the second seat where he will then become Russia’s first F1 driver.
The R30 race car was unveiled by Vitaly and Robert Kubica in Valencia. The new Renault F1 racer will be yellow and black and this pays tribute to the 30th anniversary tribute which was revealed a few years back.
“It reminds me of when I was a kid, watching Arnoux, Prost. It also sends out a clear message about Renault’s commitment to formula one,” said Eric Boullier, team principal of the newly Genii Capital-controlled team.
There will be a McLaren-like shark fin engine cover, followed by a evolution of design when compared to last year’s R29. If you’re wondering what this means: it’s standard upgrades.

Renault on Sunday presented Vitaly Petrov, Russia's first formula one driver, as the occupant of its second race seat for the 2010 season.
The 25-year-old, who finished the GP2 championship in second place last year and who reportedly has a big sponsorship purse, helped his new teammate Robert Kubica pull the wraps off the R30 car in the Valencia pitlane.
The single seater is painted all yellow and black, almost identical to the 30th anniversary tribute that was revealed a couple of years ago, but with red wing endplates coloured red in deference to prominent sponsor Total.
"It reminds me of when I was a kid, watching Arnoux, Prost. It also sends out a clear message about Renault's commitment to formula one," said Eric Boullier, team principal of the newly Genii Capital-controlled team.
The R30 also features a McLaren and Sauber-esque shark fin engine cover, but otherwise appears a fairly conventional evolution of last year's R29.
Meanwhile, as was predicted, Jerome d'Ambrosio and Ho-Ping Tung were unveiled as the team's new non-race drivers for 2010, and former technical director and acting team boss Bob Bell is now managing director.
James Allison, who while Bell was team boss acted as technical director, now takes up that role full time.

Mercedes GP reveals livery for 2010 car

Mercedes GP on Monday revealed the bright silver livery it will use on its cars for the 2010 world championship.
At the German carmaker's Stuttgart museum shortly after 11am, drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg presented the colour scheme - featuring a black nose and a turquoise sheen in deference to title sponsor Petronas - to hundreds of media representatives.
The car, to be unveiled and tested next Monday in Spain, will be called the MGP W01, the team said in a press statement.
"On the nose and other parts of the car, traces of black carbon fibre are visible," said Mercedes, referring to the fact that the traditional use of silver dates back to when white paint was sanded off the 1934 car to reduce weight.
"We are perfectly on schedule," said Norbert Haug, responding as to why the 2009 Brawn car was used for the livery launch.
"If you are testing on 1 February and you have already finished the car beforehand, then you have not used your time correctly," said the German.
Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, meanwhile, was not on message after Mercedes officials insisted for weeks that Schumacher and Rosberg do not represent 'Team Germany'.
He said the duo "together complete the German formula one national team".

VIDEO:Sebastien Buemi drove Red Bull in icy Canada

Contary to reports, Sebastien Buemi drove in icy conditions in Canada last weekend.
The Swiss driver's demonstration run in a Red Bull car on the frozen waters of the Olympic Basin, located behind the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, was called off due to "unstable ice conditions".
But around the snow-lined Canadian GP circuit itself, and at the Lac-a-l'Eau-Claire in Quebec, Toro Rosso's Buemi got up to speed with his set of special tungsten-studded tyres.
"(It was) a bit cold but in the end, it is good to be back!" said the 21-year-old.

Briatore looks to sue Piquet, departed drivers

Posted by Mr Dung Thursday, January 7, 2010

Having won his bid to overturn his motor racing ban, Flavio Briatore says it is likely he will now pursue legal action against Nelson Piquet.
The 59-year-old Italian has never confessed his involvement in the so-called crashgate scandal, where Piquet was ordered to crash on purpose during the 2008 Singapore grand prix.
Paris' Tribunal de Grande Instance on Tuesday ruled that there were "irregularities" in the FIA's decision to expel Briatore, the former Renault team boss, from motor racing.
Asked on Wednesday if he will now sue Piquet, he told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Very probably. I won't forget the pain I've suffered in a day."
After the ruling was announced on Tuesday, the FIA said Briatore and Pat Symonds's bans would remain in force until all its appeal options were exhausted.
But Briatore vowed to now continue to manage F1 drivers "like always", and warned he may sue Heikki Kovalainen and Lucas di Grassi, who recently ended their ties with the Italian.
"Apart from Heikki Kovalainen and Lucas Di Grassi, my relationship with the other drivers has never changed," said Briatore, who also manages the likes of Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso.
"Now we will look at the situation with lawyers to see if we can take legal action against those who have broken contracts with us," he added.

Schumacher to race for Mercedes Until 2012

Posted by Mr Dung Thursday, December 31, 2009

If earlier reports indicated that Michael Schumacher will be with riding under the Mercedes F1 team flag for only one year, we just caught wind that the German racer actually intends to be with the team until 2012. After 91 grand prix wins and a 16 year long career, Schumacher returns to the circuit being persuaded by his former Ferrari technical director, Ross Brawn.
It will take time to get over the Ferrari hang as Michael Schumacher won 5 titles with the red devils over a period of 14 years, prior to becoming an advisor for the Italians. Schumacher could end up as a brand ambassador for Mercedes once he is finished racing for the team in 2012. He also clarified that his number one driver status talks were a hoax as it was always up to the team management to decide his status and it will be no different while being on the new team.Via WCF

Lotus Evora Type 124 Endurance Raceca

Posted by Mr Dung Wednesday, October 21, 2009

The new CEO of the Lotus Group has revealed greater ambitions in motor racing than only formula one.

Dany Bahar, once Dietrich Mateschitz's right hand man at Red Bull before switching to Ferrari, is now in charge of Lotus, whose name will be used by a new Malaysian-owned formula one team in 2010.

"We will investigate participation in Indycar series, GT and Le Mans racing amongst other series around the globe to demonstrate the shared technology," said Bahar in a media statement.

However, it was clarified that the Lotus F1 team will be separate from Group Lotus, and reports on Tuesday said the Malaysian carmaker Proton - the owner of Lotus - is looking over the team's license agreement for use of the name.

Lotus F1 with scale model heads

Posted by Mr Dung Saturday, October 17, 2009

The Litespeed-managed Lotus F1 Racing team has released two photos of a scale model of its first Formula 1 racer that’s currently being used for windtunnel testing. There is no name for the new car yet, but more details about the team were revealed in an interview with technical director Mike Gascoyne provided along with the press release.

According to Gascoyne, development has already been on-going for a few months before the team entry was confirmed in mid-September 2009. Gascoyne is currently in Malaysia interviewing potential employees for technical roles. They are also recruiting various other personnel in the fields of admin, marketing and PR. A full list was published as a full page ad in the papers recently.

The team will be based in the RTN facility in UK initially but as previously mentioned the ultimate goal is to have a full technical facility at the Sepang circuit. However, when that happens a small UK base will still be kept to give the team a logistical advantage when the team is racing in Europe.

Lotus F1 aims to get the car up and running for a roll-out by mid-February 2010 in prepration for the Bahrain race in mid-March. The car is currently being developed with a few technical partners including Fondtech for aerodynamics, Xtrac for transmissions, and Cosworth for engines. Malaysian companies are involved in certain areas including some aspects of engineering as well as composites (very likely to be Composites Technology Research Malaysia).

There are rumours currently afloat about Toyota’s Jarno Trulli joining the new team. Trulli will likely take the senior role and be complemented by a more junior driver, possibly a Malaysian. Everyone seems to be looking at Fairuz Fauzy right now.

VW to eye F1 only if costs are lower

Posted by Mr Dung Monday, October 12, 2009

An official of the German luxury car brand Audi has hinted that parent group Volkswagen might enter formula one if the costs continue to come down.
Reinhold Carl, managing director of Audi Singapore, is quoted by the Straits Times newspaper as musing that while budgets are dropping, teams still need to fork out "well over a hundred million euros" for an annual F1 programme.

However, after car marques including Jaguar, Honda and BMW pulled out, amid rumours that Toyota and Renault might soon follow, Carl admitted that the gains from being on the grand prix grid remain vague.

F1 'clash-gate' with football world cup

Posted by Mr Dung Sunday, September 27, 2009

The 2010 British grand prix is scheduled to clash with the final of one of the world's most popular sporting events, the FIFA World Cup.

The apparent July 11 date gaffe, jokingly referred to by the British newspaper The Times as 'clash-gate', could result in sports fans having to choose which event to watch.

The clash, engineered by F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone who co-owns the London football club Queens Park Rangers, is also another piece of bad news for Donington, formula one's new British home.

It is said that to ensure the crowds still flock to Donington despite the clash, Donington organisers are considering erecting big screens so that the evening's big match can still be watched.
