BMW Sports Coupe Concept by Krasnov Igor

You might remember talented Russian designer Krasnov Igor from 2 of his previous concept studies, a 4-door Ferrari-badged sport saloon and the Marussia supercar. This time, Krasnov has come up with a conceptual proposal for a BMW sports coupe with an unusual, yet stylish asymmetrical design. The unnamed design study appears to be partly inspired from BMW's fabric-skinned, shape-shifting Gina concept while borrowing some styling cues such as the tall double kidney grille...

2010 Suzuki Concept Kizashi Turbo promises 290 hp

Posted by Mr Dung Tuesday, May 4, 2010

[Suzuki]

Suzuki has premiered the 2010 Kizashi Turbo Concept which made its public debut April 30th on the Speed Channel's Test Drive program.

The concept was born out of the designs of Suzuki tuner Road Race Motorsports working with a pre-production Kizashi GTS. Road Race Motorsports added its own 16G turbocharger, high-flow intercooler, an extreme spray injector, a blow-off valve and a velocity air intake. All that takes the Kizashi up to a competitive 290 bhp (216 kW).

The work was done on Suzuki's 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with the baseline 185 bhp (138 kW) of the Kizashi GTS, although the press release doesn't say. Suzuki was denied access to GM's 3.6 liter V6 power plant, which it intended to fit to the Kizashi, when the partnership between the two automakers was dissolved.

For improved handling, a set of 19-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop performance tires were added along with a rear spoiler from Delta Tech Engineering. Road Race Motorsports also added its own sport springs to the Kizashi's independent suspension holding up the uni-body frame.

Unlike its chief rivals, the 65-meter-long Suzuki Kizashi won't be offered with a diesel option as the only available powertrain during launch will be a 4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 178HP and 230Nm of peak torque, and matted to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.However, a petrol/electric hybrid version is planned to be introduced next year, while a diesel variant may be introduced later.

Already on sale in Japan and the USA, the new Suzuki Kizashi saloon has now been confirmed for sale in Germany.German pricing for the Kizashi is to be announced closer to car's launch date. The completely new medium size sedan which ushers in a fresh era for Suzuki is scheduled to arrive at dealerships across the country in October this year.In Germany, the 5-seater, 4-door saloon will be a challenger to models like the VW Passat, Opel Insignia, Citroen C5, Seat Exeo and the Toyota Avensis.

2011 Suzuki Kizashi Sport Unveiled Ahead of New York Show

[Blogcar]

Suzuki is adding a pinch of sportiness to its Kizashi mid-size sedan for the 2011 model year. If you're expecting a more powerful engine than the standard 178HP 2.4-liter four-cylinder that's offered across the range, then you'll be disappointed as the 'Sport' grade is mostly about looks.

Offered exclusively on the Kizashi GTS and SLS trim levels, Suzuki's definition of 'Sport' (talk about a word losing its meaning...) translates to custom light weight 18-inch alloy wheels and a 10mm lower ride plus a honeycomb lower grille, chrome accents on the front bumper and doors, discreet side skirts and a boot lid spoiler.

Inside, the Kizasi Sport gets aluminum accents and perforated leather on the steering wheel and, when equipped with black leather interior, contrasting stitching on the leather seats, shifter boot and emergency brake boot.

The new Kizashi Sport is scheduled to go on sale in the United States this August, with pricing to be announced closer to the vehicle's arrival in showrooms.

[J.D.Power]

J.D. Power & Associates' latest vehicle dependability study says most cars are getting better. In fact, J.D. Power tests showed that 25 of 36 brands (69%) improved their long-term durability. Reported problems decreased from an industry average of 167 per 100 vehicles last year to the current 155 (+7% in reliability).

The study, which measures problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old (2007 model year) vehicles, said that Porsche was the highest-ranking brand with 110 problems per 100 vehicles followed by Lincoln (114 problems) and Buick (115 problems).

The Cadillac DTS is the model with the fewest problems in the industry, with just 76 issues per 100 vehicles. This marks the first time in more than a decade that a model from a domestic automaker has achieved the lowest PP100 score in the Vehicle Dependability Study.

Interestingly, seven of the 10 models with the lowest incidence of problems in the industry are from Ford and General Motors, including the 2007 model-year Buick Lacrosse, Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Ford Five Hundred, Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan, and Mercury Montego.

The biggest losers in terms of increases in problems per 100 vehicles are: Land Rover (+27), Audi (+25), Mitsubishi (+20).

The brands with the most problems per 100 vehicles in the industry are: Volkswagen (255), Suzuki (253) and Land Rover (255).

European Suzuki Kizashi Sedan to Bow at Geneva Motor Show

Posted by Mr Dung Thursday, January 28, 2010

At this year's International Motor Show in Geneva in the beginning of March, Suzuki will unveil the European market version of its new Kizashi saloon that's already on sale in North America and Japan. In Europe, Suzuki's mid-size sedan will play in the D-segment rivaling cars such as the Ford Mondeo, Citroen C5, Toyota Avensis, VW Passat and Opel Insignia.
The company said that it will offer the Kizashi with all-wheel drive as standard while power will be provided by the same 2.4-liter gasoline engine used on the N.A.-spec model.
The four-cylinder unit churns out 185 HP when linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and 178HP when mated to a CVT.
The Japanese maker is also planning to expand the Kizashi's range in the very near future with a more powerful V6 petrol engine as well as a hybrid version, though it is not clear if these variants will make it to Europe.
We don't know yet if it's technically feasible (and economically viable), but Suzuki's recent tie up with Volkswagen could see the Kizashi sedan being offered with a much-needed in Europe, diesel engine sourced from the German Group.
Together with the Kizashi, Suzuki will also display in Geneva the Swift Plug-in Hybrid that was first introduced at last fall's Tokyo Motor Show as well as new variants of the three-and five-door Grand Vitara with a redesigned rear hatch that does away with the spare tire box.

Refreshed 2010 Suzuki SX4 with New Petrol Engine Arrives in the UK

Posted by Mr Dung Monday, January 25, 2010

Suzuki's mildly updated SX4 hatchback has made its way into the UK with the front-wheel drive petrol models on sale now and the 4x4 petrol and diesel versions to follow in April. The five-door crossover model has been revised for 2010 with some subtle styling and interior changes as well as an introduction of a new 1.6-liter petrol engine that offers 10 per cent more power, 10 per cent lower fuel consumption and 12 per cent fewer emissions than the previous unit.

The new 1.6-liter VVT churns out 120HP and 156Nm or 115 lb-ft of peak torque and can be linked to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.

The gasoline unit is available in either SZ3 or SZ4 2WD (front-wheel drive) format or as a 4x4 SZ5 model with selectable/automatic four-wheel drive.

According to Suzuki, the petrol SX4 with a manual transmission and FWD can go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 10.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 185km/h or 115mph while returning 6.2lt/100km or 45.6mpg UK on the combined EU cycle with 143g/km of CO2 emissions.

For those that prefer diesel power, Suzuki offers the 1.6-liter DDiS unit with 90HP and 215Nm or 159 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the SX4 goes from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 12.2 seconds and returns a combined 4.9lt/100km or 57.6mpg UK.

On the outside, the 2010 Suzuki SX4 hatch gets a redesigned front bumper and grill together with newly styled 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior refinements include the revised lower centre dashboard panel that houses a new display, the updated instrument cluster that incorporates a driver information display for average and instantaneous fuel consumption, fuel range and outside temperature, and the illuminated audio controls on the steering wheel.

In addition, Suzuki said that the SX4 also gets a larger engine under shield cover together with improved transmission damping and increased rigidity of body parts

Prices for the 2010 SX4 start from £11,640 for the SZ3 petrol version with a manual gearbox.

VIDEO:Suzuki R3 Concept MPV Revealed in New Delhi

Posted by Mr Dung Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Suzuki's subsidiary in India has unveiled the Suzuki R3 Concept MPV at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi earlier today.  The Indian-designed vehicle with six individual seats was designed from scratch in only nine months.

Unveiled live on national television, the R3 Concept was designed to capture the attention of a growing number of consumers in that country who require vehicles for multiple purposes.  Should the vehicle make production, consumers should expect a vehicle whose seats fold away allowing for a substantial amount of cargo room.

If the subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki India, brings the car to market, rear passengers would find it much easier getting in and out of rearward opening doors versus conventional doors.  The doors also look much more stylish compared to sliding versions.  Color tones on the inside go together well, and include cream and black upholstery, glossy black inserts with chrome trim, and a mellow blue.

The exterior is given a somewhat brutish look, with a somewhat boxy shape and bulky rear.  At the front, high-intensity lighting is contrasted with, what appears to be, subtle LED accents.  LEDs can also be seen in the rear.  Dual-exhaust pipes are well incorporated behind each wheel well.

It is unclear what engine is used on the car, what fuel it uses, and the performance it delivers.  Some reports speculate the car could receive the automaker's 1.2- and 1.4-liter petrol engines, and a Fiat-built 1.3-liter diesel.  The engine appears to be mated to a five-speed manual transmission on the prototype.

Maruti Suzuki is the big dog of the Indian auto market.  The company holds nearly 50% of the market share in that country.  Unveilings today by Toyota and Honda, and increased investment by GM, will require Suzuki to continue developing vehicles specifically for the Indian market if they want to continue dominating there.

Being the only car manufacturer that will participate at the forthcoming International Green Week in Berlin, Suzuki wants to make a splash at the fair with a custom made Alto. The Japanese automaker covered its mini car in a vinyl wrap (or at least it looks like a wrap) with a design that imitates fish scales and to top it off, they also added a... tail fin. Billed as the world's largest fair for food, agriculture and horticulture, the International Green Week runs from January 15 to 24 in Berlin.

The newly forged Volkswagen Group - Suzuki alliance plans to develop a new low cost small car for India as well as Europe and other markets, the Economic Times reported on Friday. The business daily said that the new vehicle, which will act as a replacement for Suzuki's Alto, would cost between 200,000 and 250,000 rupees in India, which comes to about $4,300 - $5,300 or €2,900 - €3,600 at today's exchange rates.

This means that the projected price for the VW/Suzuki model, is double the price of Tata Motor's Nano, which is the world's cheapest automobile.

"We will need a car in the Rs 2.5-lakh apiece range. First we had the M800, then the Alto. At some point we will need a replacement for the Alto. That price range is the entry level for Indian customers today, so we can't leave that segment open," Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava told the newspaper.

The Economic Times reported that in Europe, the car would fit right under Volkswagen's forthcoming Up! model.

"Volkswagen will be greatly interested in a car below the price segment of the Up, which we have already displayed in India, and that is something we will need to check in our future together with Suzuki," VW spokesman, Fabian Mannecke, told ET.

The newspaper added that in Europe, the VW/Suzuki small car would be priced well under the still under development Up! (which it claims will carry a price tag of around $8,800 or €6,000 in Old Continent), at around $4,000 to $5,000 or €2,700 to €3,400.

We're assuming that ET made some sort of typo in the price range as there's no way that the VW / Suzuki small car will be priced lower in Europe that in India.

And while Tata Motors proves that everything's possible in India, somehow we find it hard to believe that the two automakers will be able to develop a car that meets the strict emissions and crash standards in Europe and at the same time carry a price tag of around €3,000...

2010 Suzuki Kizashi sedan live in Tokyo

Posted by Mr Dung Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Suzuki has officially launched the all-new Suzuki Kizashi sedan in Japan. The car hit the showroom floor earlier in the week.

With a 2.4-liter, 180+ horsepower engine, the sedan gets enough power to provide enough quickness for a daily driver. The engine produces a maximum of 230 Nm of torque, meaning the sprint time will certainly be good enough for the morning commute. Intelligent all-wheel drive is also available for "smooth off-the-line acceleration and great cornering performance."

Suzuki also focused on keeping the cabin quiet. Dual-exhaust silencers and sound absorption material was used to make the ride more pleasant.

Those in Japan wanting to purchase a new Suzuki Kizashi can head to a dealership. Sales should begin in the United States within the next few weeks.
