Zagato reveals Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa race car

Italian coach builder Zagato has unveiled the new TZ3 Corsa at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este taking place this weekend in Cernobbio, Italy.

Following the teaser, Zagato has released two new images of the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa. The TZ3 takes inspiration from the Alfa TZ and TZ2 models.
Alfa Romeo’s TZ3 Corsa is a one-off racer car which has been built for an unnamed German.

There is a mono shell carbon fibre tubular chassis, lightweight aluminium for the body and a tubular frame.

Riding on 18-inch wheels, with 245/645/R18 Pirelli PZero tires at the front and 285/645/R18 at the rear, the TZ3 Corsa does the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in less than 3.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 300 km/h.

Zagato has added a V8 engine to the mix, so this means speed to match the look.

Customers who buy the Quadrifoglio Verde get the 17-inch wheels standard.The 5-door 147 replacement will be available with 5 different turbocharged 4-cylinder engines when it goes on sale.The direct-injection model has a "revolutionary scavenging control system" that reduces turbo lag.Each of the engines are fitted with Start/Stop to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions.As such, the 340 Nm (251 ft-lb) of torque is available at 1,900 RPM.Amongst these is the 235 PS (173 kW / 232 bhp) 1750 TBi petrol unit that will be featured on the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde.New details of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta were released today ahead of the car's European market debut in May.Other petrol engines featured include a 120 PS (88 kW / 118 bhp) 4-liter, and a 4-liter Multiair that produces 170 PS (127 kW / 168 bhp).

The car's dashboard is a replica design of that found on the 8C Competizione.The 35-meter long vehicle will ride on 16-inch wheels that may be upgraded to alloys, 17-inchers, or 18-inch wheels.The engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, though the 170 PS petrol and diesel units will be available with a dual-clutch automatic.When the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is released, new car buyers will be able to choose from two trim levels and two options packages.The Giulietta has three different driving modes - All weather, Normal, and Dynamic - the driver can select through the Alfa DNA unit, which adjusts items like the suspension and electronic differential.Other features include LED daytime runners built into the front headlights, rear LED light clusters, and an ergonomically-designed interior.The two second-generation MultiJet turbodiesels include the 6-liter model that churns out 105 PS (77 kW, 104 bhp), and the 170 PS (125 kW / 168 bhp) 0-liter unit.

Alfa Romeo Montreal: Design Student Resurrects Marcello Gandini's 1970s Coupe

As talented as any designer may be, it's never easy to update an original classic such as Marcello Gandini's 1970s Alfa Romeo Montreal sports coupe. Nevertheless, young design student Davide Varenna tried his best to create a modern interpretation of the Montreal for the "Stile Italiano Giovani 2010" competition organized by ANFIA.

The 20 year-old student adopted many styling cues from the original Montreal including the deep headlights, the shape of the side windows and doors, the hood-mounted NACA duct and slats behind the doors, adding his own personal touch to the rest of the car.

The original Montreal started its life as a concept car at the 1967 Montreal Expo in Canada. Designed by Marcello Gandini, responsible for some of the most celebrated designs in automotive history such as the Lamborghini Miura, Countach and Diablo, Lancia Stratos, Fiat X1/9, Maserati Quattroporte (first generation) and Citroen BX, just to mention a few, the concept model spawned a production version in 1970.

The 2+2 seater Alfa Romeo Montreal was powered by a 2.6-liter V8 engine with fuel injection generating around 200 horsepower and was hooked up to a five-speed manual gearbox that drove the rear wheels.

It remained in production until 1977 with Alfa Romeo selling close to 4,000 units of the car. Ironically, the Montreal was never officially sold in the city it was named after as the car was never certified for sale in North America.

Geneva's Pininfarina Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta: Funny Name, Seriously Cool Spider Replacement

Pininfarina's Alfa Romeo spider has debuted in Geneva, and it now has a name: 2uettottanta. Built to commemorate Alfa Romeo's centenary and Pininfarina's own 80th birthday, the 2uettottanta spider is an eye-popping look at the gorgeousness that could be a possible roadster from Alfa Romeo to replace the current Spider.

The 2uettottanta is built for "those looking for a mixture of vanity, entertainment, and the pleasure of life in the open air", and Pininfarina seems to think a production 2uettottanta-based Duetto would go well with a side of 1,750cc turbocharged 4-cylinder ("positioned longitudinally, an obvious reference to the '1750 Veloce' of 1968"). I'm inclined to agree.

Dimensions come in at 1,797 mm wide, 4,212.6 mm long (with a 2,500 mm wheelbase), and 1,280 mm high, putting it square against the Z4, SLK, and Miata.

All that really needs to be said, however, is that you're doing yourself a disservice by not checking out the images below. Pictures are worth a thousand words, after all.

Bertone's Alfa Romeo Pandion Concept Spreads its Wings in Geneva

Italy's famed but troubled design house Bertone made a comeback at this year's edition of the Geneva Salon with a new sports car concept designed to celebrate Alfa Romeo's 100th anniversary.

Named after a species of raptors, more commonly referred to as the sea hawk, Bertone's Pandion concept is loosely based on the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizone using the same high-revving 450HP 4.7-liter V8 engine.

The Pandion, which is the first car to be produced by Mike Robinson in his new role as Design and Brand Director at Bertone, measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, 1,230 mm in height and rides on a 2,850 mm long wheelbase.

By far the most impressive feature of the Pandion are its unconventional doors that follow in the tradition of Bertone's earlier works such as the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo, the 1970 Lancia Stratos 0, the 1972 Lamborghini Countach and the 2007 Fiat Barchetta, all of which had doors that opened in an unusual manner.

In the Pandion, the doors are virtually hinged around the axis of the rear wheel and open by rotating backwards, ending up a perfect 90 degrees above the centre of the rear wheel.

When fully open, they measure more than 3.6 meters or 11.8 feet high - forget about parking in most closed areas...

According to Bertone, in the event of an accident that results in a 'roll-over', the doors automatically detach from the body so that the passengers can safely exit the car.

Pininfarina Teases Alfa Romeo Spider Concept Sketch for 2010 Geneva Debut

Pininfarina turns 80 years-old this year. As part of celebrating this important milestone the company will unveil this two-seater spider concept pictured here at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. It will be presented as a tribute to its long relationship with Alfa Romeo. The unveiling coincides with Alfa's 100th anniversary so it is doubly fitting.

Apart from the obvious not much else is said or revealed about the car. But from this solitary sketch it can be noted that the current 8C Spider has some serious styling competition. The long sloping bonnet, two-door configuration and short rear overhangs are the main signs of a classic roadster. Whether this traditionalist approach will be kept intact with a soft folding roof remains to be seen.

Perhaps the Pininfarina/Alfa Romeo relationship is about to receive a new life. Hopefully the concept is as good, or even better than this sketch suggests.

Maserati Joins Forces with Alfa Romeo to Create Special Edition MiTo for Service Network

A new MiTo hatch has been created and it falls part of an exclusive deal between Masterati and Alfa Romeo. The car was created for a customer in Europe, where it will be in a limited production of 100 units.

There will be a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with 170-horsepower, similar to the most powerful model in the MiTo range. The colour for the car will be a blue Maserati Blu Onceano.

Special additions include a “Limited Edition” set of writing, and a new kick plate with “Alfa Romeo for Maserati” written on it.

Features include 18-inch wheels and a sport exterior package along with Alfa’s Dynamic Suspension.

The interior will boast dual air-con, a leather steering wheel with functional controls, a radio navigator, and a new Blue&Me system.

Alfa Romeo, Maserati And Abarth Might Merge Into One Sporty Brand

Reports have suggested that Fiat is planning on merging Alfa Romeo, Abarth and Maserati into one sporty sub-brand. Following these reports is the news about CEO Sergio Marchionne appointing Abarth and Maserati CEO Harald Wester as the CEO of the Alfa Romeo brand.

Fiat has said that Alfa is currently under strategic review, where details will be published in April.

“Alfa has been underperforming for a long time,” Marchionne said at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. “It has been the most difficult part of Fiat’s recovery, even though on paper it looks so attractive. The marque isn’t for sale, or anything like that. It’s our problem. But we do have to rethink our objectives and be realistic with ourselves before we do anything else.”

It’s been said that the company might freeze production after the Giulitetta has been launched, leaving the Alfa brand with the MiTo and Giulietta models only.~~donate a car~~

“First, I want to see how well we do launching the Giulietta. From the technical point of view it’s a huge step forward, but I want to see how it fares. And I want to see how we can take advantage of that through the company.”

Designer Envisions 2017 Alfa Romeo Executive Fastback Sedan

So what if Alfa Romeo's long-awaited replacement for the departed 166 premium sedan has been put on hold for now (from what we've heard, same goes for the successors to the 159, Brera and Spider) while the Fiat Group revaluates the historic brand's future? It little matters to independent designers like Jacob Mcmurry who have the freedom to envision the future of any model they wish.

In this case, Mcmurry designed a futuristic-looking proposal for a range-topping Alfa Romeo in 2017 that is said to have been inspired by the Carnival of Venice - don't ask...

The designer claims that the 'pointy' Italian saloon with the weird boat tail end would be ideally equipped with a V8 diesel sending power to the rear wheels. More pics after the break.

VIDEO:Alfa Romeo Giullietta First Promo

A new promotional video for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta has been released by the Italian automaker. The 1m 40s video shows the Giulietta from many different angles in rapid succession, from the LED lights at the back to the distinctive triangular grill up front.

Unfortunately, we see little of the car actually driving, while the "driver inside us" narrates the video.

The Alfa 147 replacement will have a choice of four different engines when the car is launched, starting with a turbocharged 1.4-liter petrol model producing 120 horsepower.

Each of the other units are all turbocharged as well, including the 170-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir petrol, the 105-horsepower 1.6-liter JTDM, and the 2.0-liter JTDM generating 170 hp. A Quadrifoglio Verde unit is also expected to come out down the line, sending out a respectable 235 hp.

Alfa has not used the "Giulietta" name since the 1950s. The public will get their first look at the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta in March at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

Three Alfa Romeo 159 Design Proposals to Debut in Geneva - rumors

Alfa Romeo will introduce three different variants of the 159 at the Geneva Auto Show in March, according to Inside Line. The three concepts will demonstrate different directions the company could take with the next-generation model, while honoring the firm's 100-year anniversary.

A company source told Inside Line, "At Geneva, each of the Turin design houses - Stile Bertone, Pininfarina and Italdesign Giugiaro - will create a version of the new midsize model to be shown at their respective stands." The blog notes that Bertone will likely build a two-door coupe, Italdesign Giugiaro could create the four-door sedan, and Pininfarina will make the drop-top.

The 159 replacement will also likely get a name change, taking on one of the company's historically used names. This could become a trend with the company, which is using the "Giulietta" moniker of the 1950s and '60s for its next 157. That car will also be introduced in Geneva, with sales beginning by 2011.

Alfa Romeo Announces UK Pricing for 2010 MiTo with New MultiAir Turbo Engines

Buyers in Britain will be able to order the 2010MY Alfa Romeo MiTo with new turbocharged petrol engines featuring the Fiat Group's revolutionary MultiAir technology from early January with first deliveries expected in Spring. At launch, two engine versions will become available, 1.4-liter Turbo with 135bhp that's priced from £15,165 (about USD$24,600), and the range-topping 1.4-liter Turbo Cloverleaf (Quadrifoglio) with 170bhp and a starting price of £17,895 (around USD$29,000).

The Fiat Group's new MultiAir system directly controls the air and combustion in engines cylinder by cylinder, stroke by stroke, through the intake engine valves without using the throttle.

According to the Italian carmaker, the use of this technology results in a 10% reduction of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, and a 10% engine power increase as well as a 15% torque improvement over an engine without this system.

Alfa Romeo Brera Italy Independent Special Edition

Alfa Romeo and contemporary stylish goods brand Italy Independent are collaborating on a special Alfa Romeo Brera model which gets inspiration from the world of fashion. The car already stars in the XBox 360 game Forza Motorsport 3 where most of the test drives are likely to happen.

Only 900 units will be built, with sales beginning in Europe, then Japan and Australia. For Italy Independent innovation is important which is why the special Brera uses materials like linen, cashmere Loro Piana ol'acetato cellulose, carbon fibre and Kevlar.

Outside parts such as 18-inch matt black alloy wheels with a turbine design, an aluminium fuel cap, and red brake callipers help distinguish it from normal stock. The interior features a sports steering wheel covered in black leather with red stitching, aluminium pedals and footrest, as well as the optional Poltrona Frau leather upholstery in black with red stitching.

Buyers can either specify the 2.2 JTS or the 3.2 V6 with 138kW (185bhp) and 194kW (260bhp) respectively. Drive selectors will either be a 6-speed manual or the Selespeed automatic Q-Tronic.

The first example was delivered to a founding member of Italy Independent named John. The same vehicle will be used on a tour around European style and fashion roads and cities, including Milan to Zurich and Paris to London.
