2011 Citroen C4 Revealed

Posted by Mr Dung Tuesday, June 1, 2010

[Carscoop]

Citroën just couldn't wait until this fall's Paris Salon to show us the all-new C4 5-door hatchback as the French automaker decided to release the first official photos of its C-segment model. As with the current C4, the new compact hatch will take on the likes of the VW Golf, Renault Megane, Ford Focus, Opel Astra and Toyota Auris.
If you're thinking it looks familiar in a conservative kind of way, you're probably right as the 2011 C4 is the five-door version of Citroën's near-production DS High Rider concept that was first shown at this year's Geneva Salon.
Even though the new C4 shares the same front end styling with the three-door DS High Rider, which is expected to enter production almost unchanged as the DS4 next year, the two variants differ in design from the A-Column and back.
For better or for worse, the new C4's design is more conservative (or, if you prefer, mainstream) than the current model.
Inside, there are no surprises as the C4's dashboard is shared with the DS High Rider that will essentially replace the current C4 Coupe. The design and styling is now more close to that of the larger C5.
There are plenty of notable changes over the outgoing C4 including the elimination of the fixed steering wheel hub as well as the centrally mounted LCD instrument panel while Citroën claims it will offer several personalization options.
Citroën's new compact model has grown in dimensions and now measures 4,330mm in length (+55mm), 1,790m in width (+17mm) and 1,490mm in height (+32mm). According to the French, the new model offers a boot capacity of 408 liters, or 82 liters more than the current C4.
The French automaker has not yet released details on the powertrain options, but aside from a similar mix of diesel and naturally aspirated / turbocharged petrol units found on the current C4, European buyers should also expect the first application of the PSA Citroen - Peugeot group's e-HDi diesel-electric hybrid system.
The new C4 is expected to go on sale in most European countries after this fall's Paris Motor Show.

The DS3 for SA will boast 11 different colour combinations, new trim options and a lot of add-ons. It will be tough to match models together as the possibility behind a unique DS3 is massive. Everyone has their own taste, and this means everyone will be able to match the DS3 to their own style.

Citroen SURVOLT Concept Wows Geneva

Citroen's latest concept car, the Survolt, is an unusual design study meant to show off a potential all-electric performance vehicle in an extravagant and "high-fashion" package.  The new concept was unveiled today at the Geneva Motor Show.

Performance specs were not revealed on the two-seater, but the French automaker does state that the car has a "motor racing punch."  No specific details were given about the car's all-electric drivetrain, but it is said to be an evolution of the Citroen Revolte concept seen last year in Frankfurt.  The Revolte is a hybrid model able to run as an all-electric using a rechargeable battery and small internal combustion engine.

As such, one wonders why engineers would make such a heavy use of honeycomb grilles.  Additionally, there seems to be little purpose to the roof-mounted air intake, but again few details were revealed.

Its design was meant to convey an aerodynamic look combining "flowing lines [that] convey agility, precision and vitality - with a powerful, muscular character contained in its refined and luxurious frame," according to a press release.  The supermini measures in at 3.85-meters long by 1.87-meters wide, making it 65mm longer and 150mm wider than the Lotus Exige S.  It stands rather short at 1.2-meters high, which is taller than the Exige, but shorter than the Audi TT.

Exterior touches on the charcoal, fuchsia, and yellow car include LED lighting at the front, an awkward oval-shaped grille, rear spoiler, and the same rear lighting as the Revolte.  A long windshield gives the appearance of added space inside.

This year's Frankfurt auto show saw Citroen taking the wraps off three distinct model; the C3 five-door hatchback and the production version of its more upscale three-door sibling, the DS3, as well as the REVOLTe concept, a distinctively modern interpretation of the iconic 2CV. You've already seen the pics and read the details but now it's video time as the French automaker has cooked up a series of promotional films for all three models that you can check our right after the break.

Citroen DS Revolte Concept: Official Photos of 2CV Inspired Hatch

Posted by Mr Dung Thursday, September 10, 2009

A complete set of photos of Citroen's Frankfurt motorshow-bound concept car have leaked online. As you can see from the images, the prototype model bears the name 'Revolte' while the signature logo on the bonnet suggests that the car is part of Citroen's newly formed DS line-up that includes the recently announced DS3 premium supermini. While we don't have the details behind the DS Revolte, the vehicle's design that draws on the iconic 2CV implies that it could be previewing a sub-DS3 model.

Despite the 2CV styling cues that include details such as the fabric top that covers the whole length of the roof and the curvy front and rear ends, the Revolte boasts a more athletic and aggressive design than the classic Citroen, which is more than welcome, of course.

Other highlights include the 'suicide' rear doors and the overly futuristic interior with the alien spaceship-like dashboard. Expect to hear more about the Revolte in the next few days.

Citroen's C-Crosser SUV, which is in essence a thinly "disguised" French version of the Mitsubishi Outlander, has received some minor updates for the 2010 model year. To be revealed for the first time at the upcoming Franfkurt Show, the C-Crosser benefits from the introduction of the DCS dual clutch semi-automatic transmission, enhanced interior trim design and according to Citroen, a re-homologated diesel engine that delivers lower CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy.

The new 6-speed DSC dual clutch transmission is available with Citroen's 156-horsepower 2.2-liter HDi turbo diesel engine.

With this drivetrain, the C-Crosser diesel hits the 100km/h (62mph) mark from standstill in 11.1 seconds (manual: 9.9 sec) and reaches a top speed of 198km/h or 123 mph while recording CO2 emissions of 192g/km and a fuel consumption on the combined cycle of 38.7mpg UK (7.3 lt /100km or 32.2mpg US).

Citroen said that the C-Crosser's 2.2HDi 16V 156hp DPFS engine with the manual transmission has been re-homologated and now boasts reduced CO2 emissions of 185g/km while fuel economy has been improved to over 40mpg UK on the combined cycle.

For the 2010 model year, the C-Crosser also receives interior enhancements as all versions benefit from an updated dashboard design with new chrome inserts around the dials and vents, plus an improved finish on the door panels.

After playing the 'viral' game with the release of a shady teaser shot on its Facebook page, Citroen today not only published a second teaser photo but also confirmed its plans to unveil the mystery concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With a little help from Photoshop, we enhanced the image to reveal what looks to be a B-segment hatchback, quite possibly a five-door model with "suicide" rear doors featuring 2CV styling traits.

Since Citroen did not release any details other than that the yet-to-be named concept will be officially revealed on September 15, the opening day of the Frankfurt Show, it's hard to say whether or not the study previews the C2's successor, a new member of the DS family positioned under the all-new DS3 or something different altogether.
