Earlier in the year, we told you about Mitsubishi's plans to release a small crossover, based on their Concept-cX, in February 2010. The Japanese automaker appears to be right on schedule with the car, having just released photos of the Mitsubishi RVR.

The RVR compact crossover will use a brand new 1.8-liter MIVEC petrol engine (the concept used a clean diesel) tuned to achieve a strong fuel economy rating. No exact figures were given for the vehicle's efficiency, emissions, horsepower, or torque. While the concept version was a 4WD, no word yet on which wheels will be powered in the production model.

Slotted below the Outlander, the lightweight vehicle measures roughly 4.3-meters long, about the same size as the Toyota Yaris sedan (Toyota Belta). This is 200mm longer than the Concept-cX, but still much shorter than the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4, and BMW X1. The new model has a squarer nose than the concept car, while being stretched a bit in the rear.

Features dropped from the concept include daytime LEDs, and the rear bumper-integrated center brake light. Instead of the oddly-shaped, bi-color hatch, Mitsubishi chose a more normal design. The car is better for it. At the front, a trapizoid-shaped grille is still used, with the center separation now body colored, and the entire piece surrounded in a chrome-colored ring. These also improve on the concept design.

The Mitsubishi RVR could debut at either the NAIAS, or the Geneva Motor Show. A Geneva debut would coincide with the three-year anniversary of the car's conceptual introduction. Mitsubishi will sell the car in showrooms across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Even though we're still a full year away from the European market launch of the iOn, Peugeot has already started to take pre-reservations for the all-electric car in the UK. Revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the i0n is actually a rebadged Mitsubishi i-MiEV. As part of the PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi deal, Citroen will also launch its own version of the i-MiEV called the C-Zero.

With four doors and four seats, and a compact length of 3.48 m, the i0n is powered by a 64bhp electric motor that allows it to reach a top speed of 80mph or 129 km/h.

The small city car has a driving range of 80 miles (129 km) on a single charge of its lithium-ion batteries which can be recharged in six hours through a conventional mains power supply or recharged to 80% capacity within thirty minutes with a fast charging system.

Peugeot has not disclosed prices for the i0n. However, we do know that in Japan, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is priced from 4,599,000 Yen (that's €34,500 or $51,300 at today's exchange rates), which is more than twice the cost of a Toyota Prius.

The Mitsubishi Outlander GT prototype made its debut in New York earlier this year, a sign that the Lancer Evolution's front end would be spreading to other models in the lineup. Along with the new look, the GT concept also received sportier options like 19-inch OZ Racing wheels, larger Brembo brakes, a lightweight aluminum roof and a slight bump in horsepower.

While we don't yet know exactly what features of the concept car will make it to the production version, we do know what it will look like. In addition to the our live photos we snapped last month at our favorite SoCal car meet, Mitsubishi has just released dozens of new photos of its new sportier-looking SUV. I’m sure all of us here have seen a garbage collector truck going about doing it stuff around our neighbourhoods before. Once in a while they would stop and the engine would begin revving high while stationary. The engine is actually powering the garbage compactor. This of course causes both environmental and noise pollution.
Kyokuto Kaihatsu Kogyo Co., Ltd. has worked with Mitsubishi to install the i-MiEV’s electric drive into the garbage truck. Of course, the tiny system designed for a compact car isn’t powerful enough to move the whole truck on electric power. Instead, only the garbage compactor runs on the i-MiEV system.
According to them, the results are decent. They managed a 75% cut in truck CO2 emissions during use by utilizing battery power for the trash compactor instead of the engine. And of course if you just shut off the engine while you’re compacting the trash this can be reduced to zero in terms of both noise and CO2 emissions. There is even a benefit cost-wise as the electricity cost to run the trash compactor is significantly less than diesel fuel usually used in normal trash compactors.
With almost no noise and no gas emissions during compactor use, the new truck is optimal for trash collection from within buildings, during early morning or late at night. Of course here in Malaysia there is no such consideration for noise pollution – everyone just does whatever they want without thought for others.

Held every year in Las Vegas, the SEMA Show is all about aftermarket parts, tuning accessories, and extreme modifications. This year's event, to be held between November 3-6, 2009, will see an array of companies showing off myriads of custom made proposals. It goes without saying that Mitsubishi's Lancer EVO will once again be one of the most popular subjects among tuners. As is common this time of year, Mitsubishi has launched the 2010 model year version of the Lancer EVO X for the Japanese market. Changes for the new model year are limited to the beefier side skirts, the use of new plastics up front that are said to weigh 1.5kg or about 3.3 pounds less than those they replace, a new color LCD screen between the speedometer and rev-counter with more functions, improved insulation and some minor tweaks to the interior trim.

In addition, for the 2010 model year, Mitsubishi said that it is dropping the five-speed manual gearbox option from the top-of-the-line GSR Premium Edition that will be available only with the six-speed twin-clutch SST transmission. In Japan, prices for the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X begin from 3,150,000 Yen (about $35,420 or €24,100) for the base RS model.

While police officers in the States are getting ready to welcome the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice, in the UK the boys in blue -well, at least some of them- will soon be cracking down crime with the help (?) of Mitsubishi's all-electric i MiEV. The five-door micro car was showcased in full police livery at the National Police Show in September and according to the Japanese automaker, since then the company has been swamped with requests from UK Police Forces to trial the i MiEV.

Mitsubishi said that the first production versions of the i-MiEV are set to arrive in the UK in November 2009 and will be on the road in December 2009, with West Midlands Police being the first department to run the all-electric micro car in full operational use.

The four-seat, bubble-shaped i-MiEV gets an electric motor that makes 47kW / 64HP and 180Nm (132.8 lb-ft) of peak torque. Power is delivered to the rear-wheels with Mitsubishi claiming a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 81mph (130km/h).

Certainly not the best choice if you're trying to pursue someone but we gather that the i-MiEV will most likely be used by urban cops for light tasks.

Now that the i-MiEV hybrid has become a production reality, Mitsubishi is exploring other possibilities to expand the city car's range with the world premiere of the i-MiEV Cargo concept at next month's Tokyo motorshow. The pint-size breadvan with the does away with the hatchback model's rear doors while gaining additional cargo space at the back thanks to a newly designed and taller rear end.

The cube-shaped rear compartment measures 1,350 mm wide by 1,180 mm deep and 1,100 mm high and features a flat floor. According to Mitsubishi, it allows every inch of available space to be utilized - not that there's much to go around...

There are no changes to the drivetrain that consists of a 330-volt lithium-ion battery system located under the floor deck and an electric motor that drives the rear wheels and develops an output of 47kW or 64HP and 180Nm or 132.8-lbs/ft of torque.

It looks like Japanese tuning firm Tommy Kaira is on a roll lately. Besides releasing initial details on its proposed tuning packages for the latest generation Toyota Prius hybrid, Tommy Kaira has also published the first official photo / rendering of the company's take on the Japanese domestic market Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart that has been christened the Colt-R.

We're still short on details, but the picture reveals that the modified Colt-R gets a cosmetic makeover with a redesigned front end that includes a new grille and a more aggressively styled bumper while the 5-door supermini also features a carbon-fiber racing strip that runs nose-to-tail.

As with other Tommy Kaira projects including the Prius, the Colt-R has been stripped out of any Mitsubishi and Ralliart brand logos.

While we don't have any other photos of the final product (the rest of the images in the gallery depict an unfinished prototype model), we suspect that Tommy Kaira's Colt-R will also get a newly styled rear bumper with matching side skirts, roof spoiler and different alloy wheels, and maybe even some mechanical upgrades.

The standard JDM Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 154HP that sends power to the front wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox.

The Japanese tuner said that further details and photos will be released at a later date.
