Lotus and Cosworth will be racing in the 2010 IndyCar Series. A technical and commercial partnership has been entered into with KV Racing Technology and is expected to be bear fruit on the track. Lotus Racing previously competed in IndyCar in the 1950s and 1960s, culminating with Jim Clark winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1965. That car, just like the new one, wore classic Racing Green and Yellow livery. Former Formula One driver Takuma Sato will be at the wheel this time around.
"Racing has always defined Lotus and on many occasions in motorsports history Lotus' numerous innovations have re-defined racing," Dany Bahar, CEO of Group Lotus plc said. "It's only fitting that as the Lotus Racing name re-enters Formula 1, we will also race and innovate again in IndyCar. The Lotus name will, once again compete in the top two open-wheel racing series for the passion and enthusiasm of car fans around the globe."
Lotus and Cosworth are not just partners on the track but off it too. The two British companies are looking at ways of cooperating in the ear of performance engines for road-going Lotus cars.
